St. Ives vs. Aveeno

Lotion Test

With winter in full fore and our skin screaming for moisture and nourishment this was a welcome test. I often stand in the drugstore or grocery isle debating between several lotion trying to read through all the claims and promises hoping to make the best choice for my spending dollar. Hopefully this blog post will help YOU decide what is best for you.

Viewpoints.com sent the blogger review panel 2 lotions to do a side by side comparison. We were sent St. Ives Naturally Soothing Oatmeal & Shea Butter Body lotion and Aveeno Active Naturals Skin Relief 24 hr. Moisturizing Lotion. I decided to do a true side by side comparison.  I lotioned one side of my body with the St. Ives and the other side of my body with the Aveeno. This way I was not having to remember from day to day what lotion I was wearing and take notes.  I knew that St. Ives was on my right and Aveeno was on my left.  I even had them sitting on my bathroom sink with St. Ives on the right and Aveeno on the left.

At first I was turned off by the light fragrance of the Shea butter in the St. Ives.  I immediately had flashbacks of rubbing shea butter all over my pregnant belly hoping and praying that the shea butter would prevent stretch marks. Only to be bitterly disappointed when those lines appeared no matter how much I slathered the shea on my belly. I guess some of us are just destined to carry that badge of honor after our pregnancies! But I had to push that memory aside and not let that be a determining factor in my opinion of these two lotions.

The big breaking point for me, (putting aside fragrance, absorption, moisture, etc.) was on the side I lotioned with Aveeno my clothes stuck to my body.  Not just for a bit after I got dressed but all day.  To the point I had to readjust a shirt sleeve or leg of my jeans just to feel comfortable in my clothes. It could be that my skin did not require the amount or type of moisturizer that Aveeno was offering. But what ever the reason it was a bit annoying.

But don’t take my word for it. See what my fellow The Viewpoints Blogger Review Panelist have to say in their own words.

**For this review I was provided with a full size bottle of both Aveeno and St. Ives, (see photo above.)from Viewpoints.com.  I was not compensated for my opinion.
