Last year I was invited to media day at the new Turkey Hill Experience in Lancaster, Pa.
Super excited we packed up the kiddies and headed over. Check out those blog posts HERE.
I am hoping to highlight some of the the things that have changed and some of the things that have stayed wonderfully the same at THE.

Walk in Prices
To start the price is LOWER than it was last year. I believe last year it was $14 for adults. BUY pre order your tickets on line and you get an even better deal. Going to bring a bunch of friends? Call and ask for a group rate for an even better deal. Planing ahead pays off! Here is what the online pre order prices look like:

When you first walk in go up the stairs and you will be greeted by the friendly Turkey Hill cows. Stop over and learn how cows use to be milked before milking machines were invented. Mother Hint: There is hand sanitizer near by for when you are done and paper towels in case you get a little wild with the milking.
Of course it is not REAL milk… just water but you can get the idea.
Mother Hint: Stop by the welcome desk on the first floor for an educational worksheet. FREE of course. It helps keep your kids reading all the educational material on the displays and it is kind of like a scavenger hunt. Great for home school groups.

Here is an example of some of the educational information I was just talking about.

See? The cows are ‘friendly’ enough that even the littlest guest can give milking a try.

Turkey Hill is not only known for its dairy but also its teas and flavored drinks. Learn about tea, where it comes from and learn your personaliTEA.

Push a button and a puff of air wafts the fragrance of the different types of teas. Don’t forget to read up on your tea!

Turns out my personaliTEA is Green Tea. Although lighthouse keeper does NOT fit me. I am in NEED of a light housekeeper! I would be a food critic. I love food!

Here are some Tea hints. I think tea goes with everything. But that is just me!

Then it was time for a TASTING!!!
This is new from last time we were there. We are not talking about a teeny spoonful. We are talking a full scoop of ice cream.
Want another?
Sure!
Want 6 more?
SURE!!
Try them all!

There is even a little front porch where you can sit and rest a spell. Don’t forget to try the yummy teas and drinks too. Free sampling all day!!

Time for more educational stuff.
Microbes are everywhere!
The stepping stools are new to me. (I had made that suggestion when we were there at media day.)

Another fun thing for the little ones.
The ball pit is right next to the ‘create your own VIRTUAL ice-cream flavor” computers. Toss the little kiddies in here and let the older kids plan the perfect ice cream.
Mommy Hint: Hand sanitizer near by.

Here the kids are mixing and blending. As you turn the wheel the Turkey Hill song plays.
Keep turning to keep the song going. Lots of fun.
The stairs pictured take you to a tube slide. This is new from last time we were there. Kids loved it, of course.

Look at them go!

This was a big hit for my kids. The blending station!

Tip your flavor into the ‘vat’ and watch the color flow. If you are quick and have a second one handy you can watch them blend and then change to the second flavor.

Then we went to design our ice-cream container. So many options!

There is THE helpers all over the place ready to lend a hand and point out features of the exhibits.
Here she is practicing filling virtual ice-cream containers on a virtual filling line.
We were not that good at this. So much ‘spilled’ ice-cream!

Here she is staring in her own ‘commercial’ . Choose from a variety of different scenes and use the script or say it how you see it! Don’t like it? Hit erase and do it over! Head over to the viewing screens and add music and titles and you are all set! Email it to yourself or post it to Facebook and twitter.

On our way back through we stopped at the tea room one more time. They are watching the screen on the ceiling, learning about tea and just relaxing.

Below is a special that I am sure every How I Pinch A Penny reader will be taking advantage of! A joint ticket offer with the National Watch and Clock Museum. Two attractions for one great price!

We enjoyed the little tweaks and updates from last time we were at THE.
The one thing that we did miss was the lovely cafe that was on the first floor. They had the yummiest food at super reasonable prices. I had a sandwich that inspired THIS blog post.
It is closed but THE is hoping to open a CREAMERY soon! YES!!
Turkey Hill Experience is just that…An Experience. There are not super high energy rides or characters walking around to take a photo, but it is a learning experience for the whole family. It reminds us where our food comes from and how we need to remember that fact. It shows us a company that has been around for decades and is committed to its community and its product. It lets you experience virtually what it is to be an ice-cream creator, the creativity that goes into it and the technology involved. The more involved with the exhibits you become the more you will get out of them. They are chock full of information and are well thought out. There is something for everyone.
But enough about my experience…….
