I have never stepped foot in an Ambercrombie & Fitch. Basically because I can’t breathe as I walk by one…never mind walking INTO one. Then there is the whole barely clothed/legal models they feature. I keep telling myself, ’They have body issues too…they have body issues too.’ I don’t know WHAT they might be but everyone is insecure. Right? I think if I keep repeating it I will eventually believe it. But then I saw these shorts on a mannequin:

The Bailey Short. $29.50
Super Cute and there was 2% spandex in them!! Score!
I was thinking, “What is the big deal about Ambercrombie being so expensive!? I didn’t think $30 was too expensive for beginning of the season for a pair of shorts.” Now grant it, I wasn’t going to pay $30 for a pair of shorts. I was going to hold out for mid season or even better, end of season. But for those who HAVE to have it NOW (in February) I guessed that wasn’t a bad price for those who want ‘designer’. I guess some where in some universe that was a good deal.
Then I looked around and noticed I was in the KIDS Ambercrombie!! OH MY GOSH! NOW who was going to pay $30 for a pair of KIDS shorts. Anyway! I laughed and asked the clerk where the ‘real people’ sizes were. She pointed me to the store adjacent to the one we were.
So just for curiosity sake I sauntered over the the ‘big girl’ store to see if I could find a similar pair of shorts and to see what the price difference was going to be.
I found these:

The Laura $50 and NO spandex!
Wholly smokes!! No wonder people talk about how expensive A&F can be. Nope. You are going to have to give me a super special sale to get me to buy those shorts. And then I got to thinking….what about crossover sizes?
You know where a kid XL is actually an adult S. Hmmmmmmm.
Here is the kids size chart:

Here is the Women’s size chart:
Notice the size cross over. The size 16/XL in kids is the same as a size small in adult!!! In the case of these two pairs of shorts that is a price difference of $20.50. For the amount of money I don’t care WHAT the number in the back of my clothes says. I am saving almost 50% from the adult sized store. You know I LIKE that!
Now I will still be waiting to get a sale/special to get these shorts but I will know I will be getting them for cheaper just because they are sold in the kids store. I happen to fit into this small window of cross over sizes in this particular store. This will not bode true for my entire life, in fact this is the first time in my LIFE where I have been this size. So I will be enjoying it as long as it lasts. Pinching pennies all the way to the childrens’ counter.
